Surreal Women: Wendy Bevan

17 June - 30 July 2011 Gallery Exhibitions
British artist Wendy Bevan presents an entirely new collection of painterly femme fatales in her first UK solo show.

Entitled The Pain of Desire, the exhibition explores the theatricality of female desire, and the inner pain suffered through pursuit of prescribed and aspirational notions of identity and success. Beautiful yet haunting, nostalgic yet timeless, Bevan’s surreal staged moments are captured on Polaroid. Each hand-printed, these otherworldly studies of mysterious female characters are displayed in found, antique frames sourced by the artist. Bevan is regularly commissioned as a fashion photographer for leading publications around the world. A selection of her editorial work will be exhibited alongside The Pain of Desire.

The Cob Gallery is also collaborating with concept store Guts for Garters in their second theme – Surreal Women. It will run alongside The Pain of Desire and will include pieces from Grayson Perry, Eileen Agar, and Alexander McQueen among many others.
