Artist: Joe Sweeney
Location: Riverside cafe, Tate Modern, Bankside
Joe Sweeney’s work comments on the ever-changing times of our nation and plays with Britain’s passion for nostalgia. Sorry No Vacancies is a ‘call to question’ encapsulating a ‘general sense of urban anxiety centred around displacement, prospect, opportunity and equality.’ It references the current pace of urban regeneration through a visual language, a sardonic lick of nostalgia with a sign typified by the B&B (a transient space) at the British seaside.
