“What I’m searching for when I walk the streets are people I can engage with: somebody whose face, and particularly eyes, screams a story.” – Bruce Gilden

Cob Gallery and Next to Nothing are excited to exhibit award winning Magnum photographer and recognised ‘Godfather’ of street photography Bruce Gilden. It is the first time ‘A Complete Examination of Middlesex’ or Gilden’s ‘London project’ will be exhibited.

In 2011, New York-based Gilden was commissioned by celebrated publishing house ‘Archive of Modern Conflict’ to capture the people and places of London.

The feeling presented by this startling portrait series is that of the flaneur, where images of deep-set wrinkles, lopsided smiles and furrowed brows are counterpointed with brick walls and garden hedges. At this particular moment in time, London is mutable- subject to constant change and negotiation. These images trace a path both strange and familiar across this diverse city, narrating the environment with the raw feeling and flair that is intrinsic to Gilden’s work.

Coinciding with Photo London 2015, Cob Gallery and Next to Nothing will be presenting a selection of images from this series. The hard back publication of the same title, featuring the full photographic project, will be available to purchase on site.

Curated by Next to Nothing: Hattie Moir, Imogen Prus, Natasha Wigoder.
