Jamiu Agboke Nigerian, b. 1989

Biography
Jamiu Agboke paints charged abstract landscapes that convey mutable, brooding atmospheres – akin to the moment before a storm breaks. Color palette and brushstroke allow for visual slippage and allegory, alluding to various psychological and spatio-temporal conditions. Based on landscapes that are familiar to the artist between the English countryside and his hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, the abstractions imply the movement of trees and water while evoking the artist’s recollections of displacement and immersion in nature at a young age.

Select solo exhibitions include VIN VIN Vienna (2025), Massimo de Carlo, Paris, FR (2025); Sea View, Los Angeles, CA (2024). Agboke has also been included in group exhibitions at Union Pacific, London (2026); VIN VIN, Turin, Italy (2023); White Cube, London, UK (2023); Galerie Margo, Paris, France (2023); Jack Barrett, New York, NY (2023); and VIN VIN, Vienna, Austria (2019).
