Frieze London, 2026: Katelyn Eichwald

Cob presents a focused yet expansive solo installation of paintings by Katelyn Eichwald, conceived as a spatially dispersed constellation articulating the material and emotional breadth of her practice. The stand will present new works on linen and canvas, ranging in size while remaining deliberately intimate in scale, arranged in a carefully considered, non-hierarchical composition. Rather than privileging a single focal point, the installation encourages sustained looking through rhythm, repetition, and proximity.

Materiality plays an important role in Eichwald’s practice, with the character and texture of her chosen surfaces shaping both the appearance and affect of her paintings. The selection encompasses her recurring imagery of fragments of bodies, domestic interiors, tools, garments, landscapes and cinematic details, drawn from film stills, literature, memory, and everyday observation.

The works appear almost like snapshots: fleeting, seemingly unconnected images whose relationship to one another remains elusive. A body, a landscape, an article of clothing or an isolated object appears without explanation, as if recalled from a dream whose narrative has already begun to dissolve. Operating through mood rather than narrative, the paintings accumulate as fragments that are intimate, familiar and yet difficult to place.

Eichwald’s paintings occupy a space between the personal and the observed, drawing on everyday experience while transforming it through a highly individual sensibility. Taken together, the works form an immersive, in-the-round environment in which romance, longing, detachment, and reverie emerge through unexpected encounters between images. Their apparent disconnection becomes part of their emotional charge: moments held briefly in view, suggesting memories or associations without ever fully revealing the circumstances from which they came.

Through this attention to intimacy, perception and memory, Eichwald’s paintings reward close engagement over time. The presentation brings together a significant group of new works at a moment of continued development in her practice, offering a considered view of the particular language and sensibility that underpin her work.
