In his exploration of ‘nature morte’, Tristan Pigott gives figurative painting a new face; that of a millennial. Maudlin youths with luminous skin stare into screens, always looking away from each other. Introspection and ego, social narcissism and stasis are ever-present themes, working in juxtaposition to a bold, pop-colour palette. Since graduating from Camberwell College of Arts in 2012, Pigott’s stylised rendering has earnt him recognition in London as well as further afield. He’s exhibited in Nigeria and New York, showed at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and in 2015 was shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award. He is currently undertaking an MA at the Royal College of Art.
